Mittelmuhr

Mittelmuhr is a place that was lost in the 14th century and is located in today's municipality of Muhr am See in the Middle Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen ( Bavaria ).

history

The districts of Altenmuhr , Neuenmuhr and Mittelmuhr once existed . There was a castle in each of these places. While Altenmuhr Castle has been preserved to this day and Neuenmuhr Castle was demolished in 1834/35, Mittelmuhr Castle disappeared centuries earlier. Mittelmuhr was located south-southeast of the St. Johanniskirche von Altenmuhr (today Muhr am See) and was only separated from Altenmuhr by a very wide field ("Langer Garten"). There were a few courtyards around the castle. In 1584 the castle burned down. First two wooden houses were built in the forecourt, in which the owner, a gentleman from Lentersheim, lived. Later a stone building was erected again on the castle stables, which were surrounded by a moat . The trench was filled in very early and the building was demolished in 1952. The castle is described in more detail in a Salbuch from 1734, which is in the State Archives in Nuremberg . This also includes a floor plan and a site plan. After the line of the Lords of Lentersheim-Mittelmuhr died out, Mittelmuhr was merged with Altenmuhr. For a long time Mittelmuhr had been completely forgotten about the location and the name. The fire in Mittelmuhr also plays a role in Friedrich Schiller's drama Die Räuber .
