Midnight Sun Monument

The Midnight Sun Monument , also known as the Midnight Sun Road Monument or Nordkalotten Monument , is a monument on the North Cape plateau in Norway .

It consists of a massive pillar made of masonry stones of different materials. On the pillar is a stylized compass needle pointing north to the tip of the North Cape. In the past, the compass needle had the following inscription: N. 71 ° 10 ′ 21 ″ , but this is no longer noted today (as of 2017). The memorial was erected in collaboration with twelve Scandinavian municipalities from Norway, Finland and Sweden , whose names are carved into stones on the western side of the memorial. The monument is intended to direct the view of the midnight sun road , the Midnattsolveien , towards the North Cape.

The monument was unveiled on June 7, 1984. At the same time, The Royal North Cape Club was founded.
