Minae Mizumura

Minae Mizumura ( Japanese 水 村 美 苗 , Mizumura Minae ; * 1951 in Tokyo ) is a Japanese writer and literary scholar .

Life

Minae Mizumura was born in Tokyo. At the age of twelve, her father's work brought her family to Long Island , New York , where she grew up. She first studied art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston , followed by a study visit to the Sorbonne in Paris . Eventually she studied French literature at Yale University . During her time at Yale Graduate School , she published the essay Renunciation on the work of the literary theorist Paul de Man . After graduating, Mizumura returned to Japan to pursue her writing career.

For her novel Honkaku shōsetsu (English A True Novel) Mizumura was awarded the 2003 Yomiuri Literature Prize.
