The Mjasishchev DWB-102 ( Russian Мясищев ДВБ-102 ) is a Soviet bomber from the time of the Second World War . In favor of the Tupolev Tu-2 , it was not built in series. The abbreviation DWB stands for the purpose, Dalni wyssotny bombardirowschtschik ( Russian Дальний высотный бомбардировщик , long-range high-altitude bomber).
development
Vladimir Myasishchev began designing the DWB-102 in 1939. It was supposed to operate at great heights and was therefore equipped with two pressure cabins that the OKB had developed and built itself. The front was intended for the pilot and the navigator in the front part, the rear for the two gunner in the middle part of the fuselage. It was unusual for a bomber to be equipped with four rigid machine weapons in the nose of the fuselage. The aircraft received an all-metal cell with a double tail. The wings were attached to the fuselage at shoulder height . The nose wheel landing gear was fully retractable. There was a 5.7 meter long bomb bay in the fuselage .
The planning phase was completed at the end of 1940 and construction of the prototype began. However, the outbreak of the German-Soviet War in June 1941 prevented completion. When the German troops approached, the plant and the prototype had to be evacuated to Omsk in August. With a year delay, the DWB-102 was able to take off on its maiden flight in June 1942. Test pilots were F. Opadschi and I. Kwitko. The type was tested with two Schwezow ASch-71 engines, later M-120s equipped with turbochargers were to be used. However, that did not happen. A high altitude bomber was not needed and the mass production of the Tu-2, which could also cover this area, was in preparation. In 1946 testing was finally stopped.
