The Mkomazi National Park is a national park in Tanzania . It consists of the two game reserves Mkomazi (2,010 km²) and Umba (1,224 km²), but was only officially designated in 2008 after it had previously existed as a nature reserve .
The area is located in northeastern Tanzania in the regions of Kilimanjaro and Tanga, six kilometers from the city of Same, about 300 kilometers from Kilimanjaro . The national park borders directly on the Kenyan national park Tsavo-West , so it covers a total of more than 3000 km².
Flora and fauna
The vegetation consists of typical savannah , which is bordered by the Usambara and Pare mountains . The predominant tree species is the acacia.
The rhino conservation project in this area is well known, but the animals are kept under lock and key to protect them from poaching . Tourists are allowed to visit the rhinos . With a bit of luck, you can see elephants , lions , cheetahs , leopards , giraffes and African wild dogs in the Mkomazi National Park area .
