Based on the original track plans, geography and many building plans, the Oberhausen main train station , as well as the Oberhausen-Osterfeld and Bochum-Dahlhausen train stations , as well as a blast furnace based on the model of the Oberhausen ironworks and the Zeche Zollverein colliery and coking plant were reproduced on the system . In addition, there were replicas of well-known buildings, such as the Villa Hügel , the Oberhausen gasometer and the oldest industrial workers' settlement in the Ruhr area, the Eisenheim settlement in Oberhausen, on the model railroad. All of the buildings mentioned have been recreated to scale and largely true to the original.

The 1:87 scale system ( nominal size H0 ) was designed as a two-wire digital system . A special highlight was the largest photo-realistic background in the world, which gave the system a special depth. In addition, many loving details of the facility gave an impression of the former Ruhr area.

In 2009 a second, spatially identical construction phase was to follow, which would have shown the Ruhr area today after the structural change of the last forty years. However, since the management filed for insolvency in April 2009, this has not yet happened.

In September 2012, it was announced on the MWO website that the existing model railway system was moving to the Odenwald model railway world . It can be viewed there ever since.
