List of publicly accessible model railways
The publicly accessible model railways can be divided into
- Systems that are operated commercially ,
- Systems that are part of a museum collection (in terms of museum education ) , especially in technology and toy museums and
- Systems that were initially and still mainly built by individuals or associations for their own enjoyment and are being further expanded, but are publicly accessible (criterion for inclusion in this list: open at least 30 days a year).
Further distinguishing features can be the size of the facility and the quality of the topics covered, such as the model (the depicted landscape / the part of the railway operations or the rolling stock).
In contrast to garden railroad model systems, model railroad systems are located in closed houses.
The systems mentioned here are about the smaller, still domestic gauges , such as the Z, N, TT, H0, 0, I and IIm gauges. The size of the system itself, however, almost always exceeds private expansion dimensions. In the garden paths (plants that are built in the open) or park railways go (also for passenger transport in show gardens or parks) a separate article. Larger individual models are more likely to be technical showpieces or teaching models that are not necessarily exhibited for the joy of playing . Incidentally, in contrast to model systems in museums, “ museum trains ” are historically significant original vehicles that are maintained (often by an association) and can be made available for nostalgic trips in the vicinity of the home station.

- Świeradów-Zdrój (at that time Bad Finsberg ), the design of the model railway system in the station building (today Stacja Kultury ) was created in the course of the renovation of the station and its surroundings. The owner of the property is currently the office in Świeradów-Zdrój. Another idea is to renew the railway line between Gryfów – Mirsk – Świeradów-Zdrój. After a tender process at the beginning of 2018, Piotr Heda was chosen as the contractor. Work began in July 2018 and was completed on November 26, 2018 with a technical acceptance.
- Lower Silesia , Wroclaw , Kolejkowo ; At the beginning of 2015, the G-gauge model railway show opened in the Freiburg (head) train station (Wrocław-Świebodzki), which was closed in 1991. Rolling stock from LGB and Pola is in use on initially 210 m rails. Different terrains take up the landscapes of Lower Silesia. So there are z. B. Replicas of the mountain hut of the Schneekoppe , the station building of Krummhübel or of townhouses on the Breslauer Ring on a tram diorama. After an extension, inner-city sections from the vicinity of the Wroclaw Central Station with arcade shops underneath have now been reproduced.
- Gliwice , Kolejkowo ; On September 22nd, 2016 "Kolejkowo" from Breslau (see above) opened a second G-gauge model railway show in the Gliwice shopping center "Europa centralna" at the A 1 / A 4 motorway junction at ul. Pszczyńska (Plesser Street) 315. The central system shows a typical urban landscape of Upper Silesia with industrial plants. The Gleiwitzer Ring (market square) with the town hall is also redesigned as the building of the Gleiwitzer Hauptbahnhof with the glass hall above the tracks, which was also inaugurated at the end of 2016. The second large G-gauge layout is a Western railway from the time of the fighting between cowboys and Indians, on which a Mississippi paddle steamer also pulls its tracks. 410 m of track and 1,100 figures were initially installed. In addition to some smaller dioramas without model railroading, there are also two H0 layouts.
- Waldau (Borówiec) near Posen (Poznań) in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, Makieta Borówiec; Various gauges, but mainly H0, are initially shown here on 250 m², later 400 m² are planned.
