Modelwitz is a district of the large district town of Schkeuditz in the northern Saxony district, northwest of Leipzig , in northwest Saxony .

geography

Modelwitz lies east of the center of Schkeuditz, in the east it borders on Lützschena-Stahmeln , a district of Leipzig . The eastern boundary in the form of the Grenzgraben, also known as the Lützschenaer Grenzgraben , used to form the border between Saxony and Prussia and is now the city boundary between Leipzig and Schkeuditz. Modelwitz is also north of the White Elster and the Leipzig floodplain forest .

history

Modelwitz was first mentioned in 1181. The village originally consisted of two parts, which were called Ober- and Untermodelwitz. In the 18th century, the term large and small model joke prevailed. The place was until 1815 in the Hochstift-Merseburg office of Schkeuditz , which was under the sovereignty of the Electorate of Saxony.

Through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , Modelwitz and the western part of the Schkeuditz office were ceded to Prussia in 1815. Modelwitz was now administratively part of the Merseburg district in the administrative district of the same name in the Prussian province of Saxony. The name of the inn at the state border , through whose restaurant the exact border between Saxony and Prussia ran, still bears witness to the eventful history .

In 1929 Modelwitz was incorporated into Schkeuditz, with which it came to the Leipzig-Land district in the Leipzig district in 1952 , to the Leipziger Land district in 1994 , to the Delitzsch district in 1999 and to the northern Saxony district in 2008.

The country border inn was mentioned as early as the 16th century.

Infrastructure

Modelwitz is to the right and left of Äußere Leipziger Straße, the former B 6 . The LVB tram line 11 serves the district. The Elster cycle path and the Green Ring Leipzig (outer ring) run through Modelwitz .
