Modesta from Oeren
St. Modesta von Oeren († after 659 in Trier) was the first abbess of the Oeren convent (originally St. Marien, later renamed St. Irminen) in Trier .
The monastery was founded between 635 and 650 under Bishop Modoald in the facilities of the Roman granaries ( horrea - which later became Oeren ) on the right bank of the Moselle . Modesta belonged to the Austrasian nobility. Modesta was friends with Gertrud von Nivelles and Chlodulf , Bishop of Metz. Irmina von Oeren was her successor.
Local veneration as a saint (memorial day: November 6th ) has been attested in Trier since the 10th century. Relics of her are in the Matthias basilica in Trier .
