Mohamed Barkat Abdillahi

Mohamed Barkat Abdillahi (born December 14, 1947 in Djibouti ) is a politician of the Rassemblement Populaire pour le Progrès (RPP) from Djibouti .

Life

After attending school and studying at university in 1968, Abdillahi first joined the police service of the French Afar and Issa territories and then served in the French armed forces from 1970 to 1977 and after the independence of the Afar and Issa territories as Djibouti from 1977 to 1980 in the armed forces of the country. After retiring from active military service, he worked in the private sector.

As a candidate of the Rassemblement Populaire pour le Progrès (RPP), Abdullahi was elected for the third legislative period on December 18, 1992 for the first time as a member of the National Assembly and belongs to it after his re-elections on December 19, 1997, January 10, 2003, February 10, 2008 and 20 February 2013 since then.

On April 19, 1997, Abdillahi became Minister for the Public Service and Administrative Reforms (Ministre de la fonction publique et des Réformes administratives) in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Barkat Gourad Hamadou and, after a cabinet reshuffle, only took over the post of Minister for Youth on November 1, 1997, Sport and culture (Ministre de la jeunesse, des sports et des affaires culturelles) and, after another government reshuffle, on December 28, 1998, the position of Minister for Trade and Industry (Ministre du commerce et de l'Industrie) in his government.

On July 4, 2001, he took over the post of Minister for Employment and National Solidarity (Ministre de Emploi et de la Solidarité Nationale) in the government of Dileita Mohamed Dileita and held this office until he was replaced by Houmed Mohamed Dini on May 22, 2005. Subsequently, Prime Minister Dileita himself appointed him Minister of Justice, the Penitentiary System and Islamic Affairs and Minister Commissioner for Human Rights (Ministre de Justice, des Affaires Pénitentiaires et Musulmanes, Charge des Droits de l'Hommes) . He held this ministerial office until February 22, 2013.

Two days after his re-election as Member of Parliament and his resignation from the government, Abdillahi was elected Second Vice-President of the National Assembly on February 22, 2013, making him one of the deputies of President Idriss Arnaoud Ali .
