Barkat Gourad Hamadou

Barkat Gourad Hamadou ( Arabic بركات غوراد حمادو; * January 1, 1930 ; † March 18, 2018 in Paris ) was a politician from Djibouti .

Career

Hamadou was elected Senator of the French Somali Coast , which later became the French Afar and Issa Territories , on September 26, 1965 . He was re-elected on September 22, 1974. On June 30, 1980, he resigned from his position as senator. Hamadou was Prime Minister of Djibouti from October 2, 1978 to March 7, 2001. In 2000 he spent several months in France for medical treatment after suffering a stroke. Although he was re-elected as vice-president of his party, the Rassemblement Populaire pour le Progrès (RPP), in early 2001, he announced his resignation on health grounds.
