Mohammad-Taghi Bahdschat Fumani ( Persian محمدتقی بهجت فومنی, DMG Moḥammad-Taqī Bahǧat Fūmanī ; * 1913 in Fuman , Gilan Province , Persia ; † May 17, 2009 in Qom , Iran ) was a Grand Ayatollah of Iran and one of the most senior Shiite legal scholars. He was a student of Ayatollah Allameh Tabatabai , Abulhasan Isfahani and Mirza Naini . The religious edicts of Ayatollah Bahdschat had a great influence among Shiite believers.

Mohammad-Taghi Bahdschat Fumani was born in Fuman in the Iranian province of Gilan and also started his religious studies here. At the age of 14 he moved to Karbala , Iraq , where he continued his education. Four years later he moved to Najaf , where he studied under Ayatollah Mahmud Taleghani and Ayatollah Naini. In 1944 he moved to Qom and studied there under Ayatollah Hossein Borudscherdi and Hudschat Kuhkamari. Later he taught himself in the Shiite seminary in Iraq. The teachings of Ayatollah Bahdschat were close to fundamentalist teaching. Mohammad-Taghi Bahdschat was known for his rejection of music and the visual arts. Along with Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, he was one of the most influential Islamic legal scholars who wrote about the rules of jihad .

Bahdschat died on Sunday, May 17, 2009 in the Vali-e-Asr Hospital in the city of Qom at the age of 96 from heart disease.
