Lothar Kittstein (born October 22, 1970 in Trier ) is a German historian, author and dramaturge .

Life

Lothar Kittstein grew up as the son of a teacher couple in Trier and graduated from the Max Planck High School there in 1989 . He then studied German, philosophy and history in Hanover and Bonn . In 2001 he did his doctorate in modern history and then worked for two years as a headhunter at a small management consultancy in Bonn.

In 2003, Kittstein began writing for the stage; two years later he received his first literary sponsorship award for the children's theater play Visiting . His first big theatrical success was On a moonlit winter night . The drama was premiered in 2006 as part of the “Autorentheatertage” under the direction of David Bösch at the Thalia Theater Hamburg . At that time, Kittstein was still working as an assistant for the Cologne Theater ; for the 2006/2007 season he was finally hired as a dramaturge. Since then he has mainly worked as a freelance writer and since the 2013/2014 season has also been working as a dramaturge with commissioned work for the Bonn Theater. He also wrote stage texts for the Schauspiel Frankfurt , the Theaterhaus Gessnerallee in Zurich and the Residenztheater (Munich) .

The playwright Kittstein is very interested in co-productions. After several contributions as a copywriter for the Bonn fringe ensemble , one focus of his work since 2009 has been the interaction with the director Bernhard Mikeska , with whom he explores the limits of acting. In 2013, Kittstein developed the project Too Late! Too Late! Too Late! Together with the director Michael Lippold . , which is about the "pressure of having to do everything and being able to achieve everything". The 13-person team included Freya Hattenberger , Sonja Baum and Tobias van Dieken . In 2017, The Third Skin :: The Simon Case - a multi-part scenic installation, with the participation of one viewer each. This experimental theater project dealt with the mysterious disappearance of the multimillionaire Otto-Erich Simon and was staged by the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in the neighboring Dreischeibenhaus by the trio Lothar Kittstein, Bernhard Mikeska and Alexandra Althoff (RAUM + ZEIT). In the autumn of the same year, the radio play Die Bestie dies dies on WDR 3 . In this joint work with Hüseyin Michael Cirpici, the contradicting life's work of the Russian revolutionary Alexander Parvus is critically examined.

Kittstein has also made a name for himself as a committed member of the Bonn cultural scene: In the local press he took for example. B. 2011 critical position on the plans of the city of Bonn to want to legitimize the savings in the theater sector through citizen surveys.

Lothar Kittstein is married to the actress Birte Schrein , with whom he has three children. The family lives in the southern part of Bonn .
