Mohammed Ahmed Mustafa al-Dabi

General Mohammed Ahmed Mustafa al-Dabi (born February 1948 ) is a Sudanese commander, intelligence officer and diplomat . From late December 2011 to February 2012, he was head of the Arab League's observer mission in Syria.

Life

Al-Dabi was born in Barbar , Nahr an-Nil . He served in the People's Army of Sudan for 30 years . After Umar al-Bashir came to power in June 1989, he was appointed head of the military intelligence service . From 1996 to 1999, General Mohammed Ahmed Mustafa al-Dabi served as deputy chief of staff for military operations and headed the Sudanese troops against the uprising in South Sudan .

General Mohammed Ahmed Mustafa al-Dabi was Sudan's ambassador to Qatar from 1999 to 2004.

Mission to Syria

As head of the Arab League's observer mission in Syria during the uprising that began in March 2011 , General al-Dabi said that nothing terrible was happening in Homs . He considered the situation in Homs to be reassuring . The Syrian government did not deny them access to any seat. When the observers were investigating the Bab Sba'a district of this city, they were caught in a shooting, according to al-Dabis, after which he personally escorted them to a safe place. On February 12, 2012, General al-Dabi resigned from his position as head of the observer mission. In his reports on the work of the observers in Syria, he had praised the successful cooperation of the Syrian authorities and pointed out that armed extremists and mercenaries were cracking down on the Syrian military.
