Mohammed Bechari

Mohammed Bechari ( Arabic محمد بشاري, DMG Muḥammad Baššārī ; * April 16, 1967 in Morocco ) is a leading French figure in Islam in Europe. He is the President of the Fédération nationale des musulmans de France (National Federation of Muslims in France) and the Secretary General of the European Islamic Conference (EIC), France. He is a member of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (madschmaʿ al-fiqh al-islami al-duwali) in Jeddah , Saudi Arabia .

He is chairman of the Institut Avicenne des Sciences Humaines in Lille and vice- chairman of the Conseil français du culte musulman .

In 2009 he was included in the list of the 500 Most Influential Muslims by the Prince al-Walid-bin-Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University and the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center of Jordan .

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter a common word between us and you ( Engl. A Common Word Between Us and You ), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (Engl. "Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... ") (October 13, 2007).

He was one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ).
