Mohammed Usman Arif

Mohammed Usman Arif (* 5. April 1923 in Bikaner , State Bikaner , now Rajasthan , † before 22. August 1995 ) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC), among others 1970-1985 member of the Rajya Sabha as well as 1985 to 1990 was governor of Uttar Pradesh .

Life

After attending school, Arif first completed an undergraduate degree and earned a Master of Arts (MA). He completed another postgraduate study of law at Aligarh Muslim University with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).

On April 3, 1970 Arif became a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament , for the Indian National Congress , and represented the interests of the state of Rajasthan in this until March 31, 1985 . During this time he acted from 1976 to 1978 as chairman of the so-called House Committee of the Rajya Sabha.

In 1980 Arif, who was also Vice-President of the Congress Party in Rajasthan, was appointed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as Vice-Minister for Public Works and Housing in their third government and was a member of the government until 1984, where he was most recently Vice-Minister for Agriculture and Civil Services was.

After leaving the Rajya Sabha, he succeeded Chandeshwar Prasad Narayan Singh as governor of Uttar Pradesh on March 31, 1985 and held this office until his replacement by B. Satyanarayana Reddy on February 11, 1990.

His marriage to Bhuri Begum resulted in two sons and two daughters.
