Sheikh Muhammad Ali Sabuni ( Arabic محمد علي الصابوني, DMG Muḥammad ʿAlī aṣ-Ṣābūnī ; * January 1, 1930 in Aleppo , Syria ) is an internationally recognized Tafsīr scholar (Koran exegete) from the Hanefi school of law in Sunni Islam. He grew up in a well-known family of scholars.

His easily readable, simplified short commentaries on the Koran were widely acclaimed. They follow Jalalain , Baidawi , Nasafi and Ibn Juzaj . One of his most influential comments is Tafsir Ayat Al Ahkam , an investigation into the Quranic verses concerning legal regulations.

In 2009 he was listed at number 29 on the list of 500 Most Influential Muslims by the Prince al-Walid-bin-Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University and the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center of Jordan .

The Institute of Scientific Research and Revival of Islamic Heritage at Umm-al-Qura University in Mecca , Saudi Arabia - founded by King Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud as part of King Abdulaziz University in 1949 - commissioned Sabuni to do this to examine the ancient Tafsīr manuscript from Abu Ja'far al-Nahhas (died 949).

In 2011 he was apparently one of the members of the Muslim delegation at the Second Muslim-Catholic Forum of the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought .
