Monagas Sport Club , mostly abbreviated to Monagas SC or simply el Monagas , is a Venezuelan football club from Maturín . He is nicknamed Los guerreros del Guarapiche (The Warriors of the Guarapiche) due to his combative style and Maturíns location on the Guarapiche River. Monagas SC plays at the Estadio Monumental de Maturín .
history
Monagas Sport Club was founded by Joaquín (Fariñas) Da Silva, Ramón Ramírez and other men on September 23, 1987. At the beginning Monagas SC played friendly matches against the teams "Atlético Cumaná", "Cachorros del Tigrito", "Mariscales de Sucre" and "Unión Deportivo de Puerto La Cruz". His first official game was on May 22, 1988 against Unión Deportivo Puerto la Cruz.
The Monagas Sport Club played in the Venezuelan second division until 1990. At the end of the season Monagas Sport Club rose to the Venezuelan first division .
The Monagas Sport Club qualified for the South American Cup in 2002 and 2003. In 2002 Monagas Sport Club won against Deportivo Táchira FC from Venezuela in the first round with 2-0 in San Cristóbal and 3-0 in Maturín. In the second round of the club from Maturin from was San Lorenzo de Almagro of Argentina 0-3 in Puerto Ordaz , Venezuela, and in 1-5 Buenos Aires defeated. In 2003, the Monagas Sport Club was defeated by Deportivo Italchacao from Caracas in the first round of the South American Cup with 1-2 in Maturín and 0-1 in Caracas.
From 1987 to 2007 Monagas Sport Club played in Maturín's Alexander Bottini Stadium. The Estadio Monumental has been the home of the football club since 2007.
