The loose or rather compact, flat rosettes reach a diameter of 10 to 25 millimeters and consist of 15 to 45 leaves. The obovate leaves are rounded and conspicuously narrow into a long stem-like base. Younger leaves are somewhat rhombic. Their leaf blades are 7 to 15 millimeters long, 2 to 4 millimeters wide and about 1 to 2 millimeters thick. Its bare surface is slightly papillary .

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence consists of simple or rarely branched flower stems that appear to the side and is regularly branched. The mostly six-fold flowers are on sparse glandular-hairy pedicels 3 to 8 millimeters long and reach a diameter of 3 to 4 millimeters. Their elongated and occasionally slightly broadened, pointed petals are 2.4 to 3.6 millimeters long and 1.1 to 1.5 millimeters wide. The nectar flakes are 1 to 1.5 millimeters long and 1.5 to 2 millimeters wide. Your blade is two-lobed, inverted heart-shaped, tiny notched and clearly nailed.

Distribution and systematics

Monanthes lowei is common on the Selvagens Islands .

The first description as Sempervivum lowei by Jorge Américo Rodrigues Paiva was published in 1867. Pedro Luis Pérez de Paz and Juan Ramón Acebes put the species in 1985 in the genus Monanthes .
