The Monastery Nunatak is an imposing and isolated Nunatak in East Antarctica Victoria Land . On the south side of the Quartermain Mountains, it rises at the head of the Ferrar Glacier between Mount Feather and Pivot Peak .
With its hood made of light sandstone and the vertical slopes on a foundation made of black dolerite , it is reminiscent of a Tibetan monastery . This prompted a New Zealand survey team on the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) to use the descriptive name.
