action

Paul is the eponymous moonlight child . An incurable disease means that he is not allowed to expose himself to sunlight. This not only dominates the life of the six-year-old, but also that of the family, especially that of sister Lisa, who is twice her age. The two spend every day together and experience adventures in their imaginations. Paul wanders through space as a lost space captain, Lisa represents the scientist accompanying him.

Lisa's life is further complicated by Simon, with whom the girl falls in love. Paul notices that his sister is no longer paying her attention to him alone. At the same time the boy's condition deteriorates, so that Lisa feels overwhelmed to combine her first love and concern for her brother.

Reviews

“A sensitive film about love, life and responsibility that primarily appeals to children and young people; Staged with strong images, well played, poetic in the real scenes and fairytale-like in the numerous animation sequences of the space dream world. "

- Lexicon of International Films

“With the sensitive narration of a first love in the shadow of an incurable disease, a children's film from Germany can finally hold a candle to its Nordic role models. This also arouses deep emotions in adults, which one rarely confronts outside of the dark cinema auditorium and which point far beyond the actual topic. A plea for looking for the realm of fantasy in the midst of a reality that is just as it is. "
