Monfortinho is a place and a former municipality ( Freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Idanha-a-Nova . 540 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).

history

Already the Romans used the local medicinal springs, for which Monfortinho is known to this day. It was largely destroyed in the Restoration War in 1640 and could not regain its local importance afterwards.

Culture and sights

The place is especially known for its thermal baths and its medicinal springs.

Its stone cross, its border and customs building, and its parish church are listed as historical monuments.

Every year on the 11th and 12th day after Easter , the village celebrates the Bodo feast, with which the Nossa Senhora da Consolação (English: Our Lady of Consolation) has been thanked, since a general plague of locusts has been here in 1870 and was spared the famine that followed.

At the airfield Monfortinho Flying competitions are held occasionally.

administration

With the territorial reform in Portugal in 2013 , Monfortinho was merged with Salvaterra do Extremo to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Monfortinho e Salvaterra do Extremo . The seat of the new municipality became Monfortinho.

There are two villages in the area of the former municipality:

  • Torre
  • Termas de Monfortinho
