Mong La ( Burmese မိုင်းလား , BGN / PCGN : maingla; Chinese 勐 拉 , Pinyin : Měng lā) is a small town in Shan State in Myanmar . It is located about 80 km northeast of Keng Tung and directly on the border with Daluo , Menghai , Yunnan , China .

General

Mong La is the capital of Special Region No. 4, an autonomous region within Shan State.

The infrastructure of the small town is dependent on electricity and telecommunications from China. The main currency used here is the Chinese renminbi .

The alternative route AH3 of the Asian trunk road project passes Mong La .

The National Democratic Alliance Army-Eastern Shan State , an armed group that campaigns for the autonomy of Shan State, has its headquarters here. The Myanmar government has no influence here.
