Mongolia 360 °

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Land Art Biennale ( LAM 360 ° / Land Art Mongolia Engl.) Is a Land Art event in Mongolia . The Biennale was founded in 2006 with a symposium in Bor-Öndör in the Gobi and takes place every two years at different locations in Mongolia, whereby the differences in the vegetation and climatic conditions of the different landscapes become particularly clear.

Land Art Mongolia, which took place in August 2010, was dedicated to the topic of sustainability. Twenty international and five Mongolian artists were selected from around three hundred submissions from twenty-three countries to respond to the Gobi landscape with their plans. The curator of the first biennial (2010) is art critic RA Suri, who lives in Shanghai and Beijing ( People's Republic of China ).

In addition to the Land Art event in the Gobi, the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery in Ulaanbaatar is presenting a documentation exhibition with photographs, installations and drawings of the works of art. A trilingual catalog (German / English / Mongolian) with artist statements and photographs documents Mongolia 360 °. An accompanying symposium parallel to the exhibition deals with the topics of public space versus free space , the development of multilateral art projects and the political conditions of sustainability - each organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung .

The Land Art Biennale is a multilateral project in terms of design, planning and financing. The peculiarity of this cultural event lies not only in the specific location in the Gobi desert as a kind of 'spatial' metaphor of the relative independence of the Land Art art form from economic aspects of the art market, but above all in the fact that topics can be addressed through this experimental art form that allows a unique observation from diverse perspectives on political discourses in the metropolises. Viewpoints from a wide variety of interest groups come together here. It was only through the integration of a broad layer of social groups that the symposium accompanying the 2010 Biennale was not only able to address a connection between art and politics, but also to stimulate a direct exchange of different perspectives and perspectives. This attempt at a crossover between politics and art was received with great interest in Mongolia and, in its cultural and political explosiveness, is linked to the most interesting art projects worldwide.
