Monica Semedo

Monica Semedo (born June 15, 1984 in Grevenmacher ) is a Luxembourg television presenter and politician of the Democratic Party (DP). She has been a member of the European Parliament of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the Renew Europe group since July 2, 2019 .

Life

Semedo's parents come from Cape Verde and came to Luxembourg looking for work in the 1970s. At the age of around four, she was discovered by Jang Linster at a singing competition, with whom she subsequently recorded the song Jiddereen huet eppes - zesummen hu mer vill . She attended the Lycée de Garçons de Luxembourg until 2003 , and graduated from the University of Trier with a master's degree in political science in 2015 .

From 1996 she worked as a presenter for the TV station RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg , as a teenager she presented the children's program Häppi Diwwi , later the weather forecasts and the programs Planet RTL and Planet Hits . In May 2018, she resigned from RTL to run for the Democratic Party in the 2018 chamber election, but did not receive a mandate. Since 2019 she has been working as a communications manager and management assistant in the financial sector.

After the European elections in Luxembourg in 2019 , she became a full member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) and a deputy member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) for, alongside Charles Goerens, in the 9th electoral term of the European Parliament starting on July 2, 2019 the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the Renew Europe Group .
