Monika Hilker
Monika Hilker (born March 24, 1959 in Friesoythe ) is a German biologist with a research focus on chemical ecology .
Life
Hilker has been studying biology at the University of Göttingen since 1977 , where he obtained a diploma with a focus on zoology and forest ecology in 1983 with a thesis on bark beetles . In the same year she passed her state examination for teaching in organic chemistry . She then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Forest Zoology in Göttingen and was recognized in 1986 for her work "Investigations on the egg-laying regulation by ecomons in Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) ( Lepidoptera , Noctuidae ) and Laspeyresia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera, Tortricidae ). “ PhD in Göttingen .
From 1987 to 1993 she was a research assistant at the University of Bayreuth . There she received her habilitation in 1993 on the subject of “Chemical Ecology of Juvenile Developmental Stages of Leaf Beetles”. In 1994 she was appointed professor (C4) at the Institute for Zoology at the Free University of Berlin . From 1997 to 1998 she was director of the Institute for Zoology. From 2000 to 2006 she was a member of the executive committee for graduate schools of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and from 2003 to 2009 a member of the DFG executive committee. From 2004 to 2013 she was also co-editor of the Journal of Chemical Ecology . In 2019 Hilker was awarded the Silverstein-Simeone Prize, which is awarded by the International Society of Chemical Ecology.
Research area
Monika Hilker's research area is in the field of chemical ecology , where she mainly deals with the chemical communication of insects and the defense against insects caused by plants. The focus is on the investigation of insect eggs as well as the chemical-ecological interactions between the eggs, the plants and the predators and parasitoids .
The results of their investigations serve on the one hand to increase the basic knowledge in the area of chemical interactions between different species, on the other hand they find practical application in the area of plant protection .
Fonts
Monika Hilker is the author of numerous scientific publications in the fields of animal ecology, chemical ecology and animal physiology.
