Monika Kruszona

Monika Kruszona (born August 4, 1985 in Krefeld - Uerdingen ) is a former German water polo player . The left-hander first played for Bayer Uerdingen before moving to the series champion SV Blau-Weiß Bochum in the German Water Polo League in the 2002/03 season. The center player has won the top scorer several times, most recently in 2010/11 with a record number of 136 hits. With the new season starting this winter (2011/12), the Uerdingen native will be returning to her home club Bayer. The center player ended her career in 2012/2013.

Career

With SV Blau-Weiß Bochum , the left-hander has won the German water polo championship nine times (2003 to 2011) and the German water polo cup eight times (2003 to 2006 and 2008 to 2011).

International

For the German women's national water polo team, Kruszona took part in the 2001 World Junior Championship in Perth and the 2003 Junior World Championship in Calgary , where she and her team reached fifth place. In Calgary, she was together with teammate Barbara Bujka with 23 goals the top scorer of the tournament. For the senior national team she got into the water for the first time in 2001 at the age of 15 and has been a constant in the team ever since. With Germany, she competed at the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona and 2005 in Montréal, as well as the 2007 Water Polo World Cup in Melbourne , Australia , where she finished eleventh with her team. Furthermore, she was in Germany's squad at the European Championships in 2001 in Budapest , 2003 in Ljubljana , 2006 in Belgrade and 2008 in Málaga . After a national team break in 2009, Kruszona qualified again in May 2010 with the German selection for the 2010 European Championship in Zagreb . At the European Group 2 tournament in Messina , Italy, Kruszona was the German team's most successful goalscorer with 13 goals. In June, she failed with this because of the qualification for the finals of the FINA World League .
