Monistrol de Calders is a municipality that belongs to the province of Barcelona in Catalonia , Spain , and the district of Moianès . The place is located in the southwest of the Moianès plateau, near the Pla de Bages at Navarcles , Artés , and the mountains and natural park Sant Llorenç del Munt , to which the mountains la Mola and el Montcau belong. The parish belongs to the Archpriesthood Moianès and to the ( Diocese of Vic ). The place of jurisdiction and the financial administration of the place are in Manresa .

It is a relatively young community that did not come into being until 1934. Nevertheless, the desire for independence from Calders goes back to the 17th century, and between 1812 and 1835 there was a short period of independence. The origin of the municipality of Monistrol de Calders was the parish of Sant Feliu de Monistrol, one of the four parishes that belonged to the Barony of Calders. The others were Sant Vicenç de Calders, Sant Pere de Viladecavalls, and Sant Andreu de Calders. The last two lost importance and the population also decreased, while Sant Feliu de Monistrol grew and had more inhabitants than Sant Vicenç de Calders. This was one of the reasons for the split from Calders in 1934.

Geographical information

The community is located in a rocky mountain landscape, characterized by high cliffs and dry river beds, which fill with water when it rains heavily. The predominant vegetation are various types of pine from the Mediterranean, holm oaks and scrub. There are numerous sources in the municipality, once there were over thirty. In the place the river beds Golarda or de Marfà and the Torrent de l'Om flow into that of Sant Joan, so that the river Calders arises in the north of the village.

The erosion created a unique landscape with large rock overhangs, deep gorges and strangely shaped, huge rocks. There is also a dolmen, the Pla de Trullas, which was restored in 2005. From there you have a wonderful view over the rock massif of Sant Llorenç del Munt.

A particularly picturesque gorge is Gorgs Blaus, which owes its name to the bluish rocks.
