Montecatini Alto is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of the Italian municipality of Montecatini Terme in the province of Pistoia and is about 200 meters above the spa town of Montecatini Terme.
The Tuscan mountain village is the original settlement core and is connected to the main town by the oldest Italian funicular railway still in operation , the Funicolare di Montecatini Terme .
The mountain village can also be reached via a road winding up the mountain or a footpath that runs almost parallel to the funicular.
From the mountain village you have a view over the valley floor to Monte Pisano .
Local transport
At the northeast end of the spa park of Montecatini Terme is the valley station of the funicular that goes up to Montecatini Alto. A local minibus also drives to the mountain village every hour from the Montecatini Terme bus station.
Festivals in Montecatini Alto
Every year shortly after Easter, the Fettunta Festival is celebrated in Montecatini Alto . Fettunta is also known as bruschetta .
