Montgolfiade Munster
The Montgolfiade Münster is the oldest hot air balloon event in Germany, which dates back to 1969. The word “Montgolfiade”, used today for almost every balloon event, was invented at that time. It is made up of the words Olympiade and Montgolfière .
It is estimated that there are between 50 and 60 balloonists in the immediate vicinity of Münster ; nationwide there are around 1300 hot air balloons and 30 gas balloons. With Ferdinand Schleiermacher comes a balloon pioneers from Munster, also it was Münsterland with a variety of landing facilities for balloonists very suitable.
history
In connection with the launch of the first hot air balloon in Telgte on November 7, 1969, the Montgolfiade in Münster was launched. Two years later, the first Montgolfiade was held in Telgte in 1971. In the further course of the event, the event was held at different locations, including Hamm and Borghorst . Until the late 1980s, the event took place regularly on the grounds of Münster-Osnabrück Airport , until the volume of traffic there became too great.
Since 2003, the Montgolfiade has been held by the “Freiballonsport-Verein Münster und Münsterland eV” in cooperation with the City of Münster's Sports Office every year in August near the Mühlenhof open-air museum on the meadows on the Aasee . For the protection of the animals, overflight bans and minimum flight altitudes apply to the area of the adjacent Allwetterzoo Münster .
In addition to the start of the hot air balloons in the early evening hours and the balloon glow in the dark, there is an extensive supporting program for the whole family. The fox hunt as a pursuit competition is part of the Montgolfiade.
Holger Lehmbrock from Münster emerged as the winner of the 42nd Montgolfiade 2012.
The start of the 43rd Montgolfiade in 2013 took place in the Bürgerhalle of the historic town hall in Münster. At this event, which was attended by more than 50 hot-air balloons, for the first time images from the balloon baskets and a lifting platform were transmitted for the spectators to an 18-square-meter LED screen that was set up at the launch site. Further pictures were provided by a drone . In addition, the 21st German Championship of the German Free Ballooning Association was held as part of the event with 25 pilots starting. There were twelve tasks to complete. Of the seven planned title runs of the German championship, only three runs could be carried out due to the weather with “hit target crosses”, “drive in a triangle” and “strictly maintain air height”. Oliver Ehm won the Montgolfiade 2013. Uwe Schneider won the German championship for the seventh time.
The 44th Montgolfiade took place from September 19 to 21, 2014 in Burgsteinfurt . Since that year, the event has been held every year, once in Münster and once in the surrounding area.
