Daron Oshay "Mookie" Blaylock (born March 20, 1967 in Garland , Texas ) is a retired American basketball player .
career
Blaylock graduated from the University of Oklahoma . With the university team, he reached the final of the NCAA . There they lost to the Kansas Jayhawks with 79:83.
Blaylock was drafted as the twelfth pick by the New Jersey Nets in 1989 . In 1992 the point guard moved to the Atlanta Hawks . In 1994 he took part in the NBA All-Star Game , where he scored five points in 16 minutes of play. In 1993/94 and 1994/95 he was also elected to the NBA All-Defensive Team . In 1999 he moved to the Golden State Warriors , where he ended his career in 2002.
He managed more than 200 steals in four NBA seasons. He achieved a total of 2075 steals , making him one of the top 20 in the NBA. In three-point throws, he is among the best players in the NBA with 1,283 successful throws and 3,816 attempts, which corresponds to a rate of 33.6%.
Others
The American rock band Pearl Jam originally wanted to name themselves after Mookie Blaylock, but gave up this idea. Instead, their debut album Ten got its name from Blaylock's shirt number.
Prison sentence
Blaylock was sentenced to 15 years in prison in October 2014. However, this can be reduced to three years. Blaylock hit a woman in his car in May 2013 and was fatally injured.
