The Moonie River is a river in the western Darling Downs in eastern Australia .

geography

It rises west of Dalby in Queensland and then flows south over the border into New South Wales . It flows southwest of Mungindi into the Barwon River . There are no major cities in the river's catchment area and it is very flat. There is a reservoir on the river, the Thallon weir with a capacity of 185,000 m³.

The source of the river is east of Tara . It flows through the cities of Flinton and Nindigully and then passes Thallon to the west. The largest tributary of the Moonie River is the Teelba Creek , others are the Farawell Creek and the Toombilla Creek .

Both the Moonie Highway and the Carnarvon Highway cross the river.
