style

Dan Swanö plays melodic and heavy Progressive Metal on Moontower with the growling typical of Death Metal , only a few passages are sung clearly. The electric guitar is mostly used as a rhythm instrument or accompanies the melody-leading keyboard with its riffs, which either sounds like a "spacey" synthesizer or a Hammond organ . Occasionally an acoustic guitar can be heard. Despite the varied compositions, the album appears homogeneous. In the press, individual stylistic elements were compared with Edge of Sanity, Amorphis , Opeth , Rush and Dream Theater .

reception

The album was received by the press i. A. positively received. Matthias Weckmann from Metal Hammer thought that Swanö was “not reaching for the stars with Moontower , but definitely not into the toilet.” Jan Hamm from Babyblauen Seiten judged: “You look in vain for stylistic breaks, special experiments or varied singing [...] But 'Moontower' contains really high-quality material. "Michael Rensen from Rock Hard praised that the album offered" enough interesting material to keep Prog fans and fans of symphonic troops like Covenant chained to the speakers for hours. " eclipsed magazine added the album to its list of prog metal milestones.
