The moss speed predator ( Tachyporus hypnorum ) is a beetle from the family of the short-winged species (Staphylinidae).
features
The beetles reach a body length of three to four millimeters and, like the other representatives of the genus Tachyporus , have a conspicuously pointed abdomen . The whole body shines sharply and is colored black, which otherwise also black shiny neck shield is colored orange-wide on the sides. The shortened wings ( elytra ) are yellowish-red, the area that connects to the pronotum and the shield region are black. The abdomen has several strong, black bristles. The legs and base of the antennae are yellow.
Occurrence and way of life
The animals occur in the Palearctic to the south of Norway , central Sweden and Finland and also on the British Isles . They can be found from the plains to heights of over 2000 meters on rotting plant material, in fields and forests. They are very common.
