The Argentine Marambio Station is the largest station in Argentina in the Antarctic . It is located on the Seymour Island (also called isla Marambio in Argentina ) about 100 km from the Esperanza station . At this point, Vice-Commodore Mario Luis Olezza built the first airfield in Antarctica before the station was founded on October 29, 1969. It is named after the Argentine Air Force pilot Vice-Commodore Gustavo Argentino Marambio , who was one of the first pilots to fly over Antarctica.

The scientific research facilities at the station deal with: observation of cosmic rays , glaciology (especially glacier and iceberg research), measurements of the ozone layer and meteorology. One of twelve geodetic GPS markings in the Antarctic was placed in Marambio to observe the continental drift .

The Marambio station was also used for exploring the ionosphere . In September and October 1975 two two-stage high-altitude research rockets of the Castor (A) type were launched for the Max Planck Institute over a distance of approx. 400 km. Five launches of the smaller Super Loki took place in February 1982 for NASA .
