Morgana Moreno

Ane Morgana Moreno (* 1990 in Salvador da Bahia ) is a Brazilian flautist and composer who moves between jazz and world music .

Live and act

Moreno, who has been playing the flute since she was ten , has belonged to the choro group Mandaia since she was 15 , with whom she recorded her first album in 2007. She studied her instrument at the Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA). During her studies she already played as a soloist or in the flute setting in the largest orchestras in Bahia such as Yoba, Neojibá, Osba and Osufba . As a specialist in choro, she also worked with the Os Ingênuos group ; she has appeared at major festivals such as the III Festival Nacional de Choro and Festival Instrumental da Bahia as well as on relevant Brazilian stages such as the Teatro Castro Alves and Clube do Choro de Brasília .

After graduating in 2012, she moved to Germany, where she toured as well as in France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. In 2016 she completed her master's degree in jazz flute at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . Her main projects, for which she works both as an instrumentalist and partly as an arranger and director, are currently Miscellaneous (Tonträger 2016), Samba Jazz Clube and Choro Session .

Prizes and awards

In 2013 she won first prize (jazz & world music) at the Leopold Bellan International Competition in Paris as a duo with the guitarist Marcelo Rosårio . Her composition Baião (which is interpreted on the Classica Brasiliana CD ) won an award for “best music” at the Festival da Educadora FM 2014 in Salvador.
