Moriarty is a French-American music group founded in 1995 by five artists from France , the USA , Switzerland and Vietnam . The band name goes back to the character of Dean Moriarty from the novel Unterwegs by the American writer Jack Kerouac .

Most of the band's members grew up in Saint-Lô , France , but have American parents. The current singer Rosemary Standley joined the band in 1999.

In October 2007 the debut album "Gee Whiz But This Is A Lonesome Town" was released on the independent label Naïve Records. Despite its unusual mix of styles of blues, country, chanson and folk, the album reached the top 30 of the French charts and reached gold status a year later. The first single was the title Jimmy . After the album was released, Moriarty toured France until spring 2008, but also played in Switzerland, Canada, Spain, Germany and Great Britain. For 2009 there were further tour dates through the USA, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Great Britain and Sweden.

In 2008 Moriarty were among the nominees for the Prix ​​Constantin .

music

Moriarty's music is inspired by traditional Irish music , country and blues . Instruments such as guitar , double bass , harmonica , xylophone and kazoo are played, and noises from typewriters or reception bells are occasionally used.
