Moritz Johann Sachs von Hellenau (born October 13, 1844 in Stettin , Austrian Silesia , † January 11, 1933 in Lovran ) was an Austro-Hungarian  vice admiral, commander of the Fiume Naval Academy and adjutant to the wing of Emperor Franz Josef I.

Life

Moritz Sachs von Hellenau was born on October 13, 1844 in Stettin ( Štítina , Austrian Silesia ). His parents were the kk district captain of Freiwaldau ( Jesenik ) Josef Sachs and Antonie Sachs, née Winckler. After graduation in Szczecin 1861 he appeared as midshipman into the Imperial Navy. He was the first member of the Austro-Hungarian Navy to be appointed wing adjutant to the Kaiser. After the death of Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary in 1898, her daughters gave him her personal milk glass as a "symbol of remembrance".

Military career

In 1881 Sachs von Hellenau was an officer on the SMS Miramar during the journey of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria-Hungary to the Orient; In the years 1888-1892 Sachs was the first wing adjutant of Emperor Franz Joseph I in the Navy. From 1892 to 1894 he commanded SMS Saida during a mission trip for training, exploratory and trading purposes. In 1900 Sachs was appointed director of the Fiume Naval Academy . That year he was promoted to Rear Admiral. In 1904 he was promoted to vice admiral. In 1905 he was retired.
