Moritz Sanders (born May 9, 1998 in Rotthalmünster ) is a German basketball player. He measures 2.10 meters and can occupy the positions of the large winger and the inside player. Sanders is currently part of the squad of the second division club Nürnberg Falcons BC .

Career

Sanders learned to play basketball in the youth department of the BG Dorsten . In the 2011/12 season he also played for the Metropol Baskets, a syndicate of clubs in the Ruhr area, in the U16 Bundesliga JBBL . In 2012/13 Sanders also played in the JBBL, but at the time for the youth team Phoenix Hagens .

In the summer of 2013, Sanders decided to switch to the Brose Baskets Bamberg or to the youth teams affiliated with the club. In his first season in Upper Franconia (2013/14) he played for TSV Breitengüßbach in the U16 Bundesliga JBBL and was German runner-up with the club. In the following season he was used for Breitengüßbach's men's team in the 1st regional league and in the highest national youth division, the U19 Bundesliga NBBL .

A next step was followed by the season 2015/16, when Sanders for another partner team of Bamberg, the 1. FC Baunach , in the 2. Bundesliga Pro A aground. He gained further match practice in the 2nd regional league in the Regnitztal Baskets jersey and also in the NBBL team of Breitengüßbach.

For the 2016/17 season, Sanders moved to the second division club Nürnberg Falcons BC . With the Franks he became runner-up in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA in the 2018/19 season and thus achieved promotion to the basketball Bundesliga . Sanders came to averages of 7.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per use during the season. Following the 2019/20 season, he was recognized by the league as the best young player of the ProA season after achieving average values ​​of 9.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per match.

National team

In the summer of 2014 he was part of the German national team for the European Championship for boys under 16 in Latvia. With the U18 national team, he won the Albert Schweitzer tournament in spring 2016 . In December 2016, he played the U18 European Championship in Turkey with the German team and came in fourth there.

At the U19 World Cup in July 2017, Sanders was used in four tournament games and recorded an average of 7.3 points per game. He came with the DBB selection in the title fights in Cairo in fifth place. At the beginning of June 2018 he was appointed to the U20 national team and won the bronze medal with the team at the EM in Chemnitz a month later, thus contributing to the "greatest success for a male junior national team in 35 years".

In the summer of 2019 he was called up to the A2 national team and achieved fifth place with it in July 2019 when he participated in the Summer Universiade in Naples .
