Morrie Roizman

Morris "Morrie" Roizman (born April 15, 1912 in Berdychiv , Russian Empire , † April 12, 1985 in New York City ) was a Russian-American film editor and documentary filmmaker .

Life

After his parents fled the Russian Revolution with him , Morris Roizman lived in New York City . He left school at the age of 16 and joined Fox Movietone , where he began working as an editor with producer and director Louis de Rochemont . Roizman worked on the film editing of several documentaries and in 1955 was able to win an Oscar nomination in the category "Best Documentary Short Film" for the short documentary Rembrandt: A Self-Portrait, which he produced .

In 1974 Roizman retired from the business and from then on lived in Fort Lee .

Morris Roizman died on April 12, 1985 at New York University Medical Center . He left behind his wife, two daughters and four grandchildren, and nephew Owen Roizman , a cameraman who has been nominated five times for an Oscar .
