Mortifer was a Russian thrash metal band from Kostroma that was formed in 1988 and split up in 2008.

history

The band was founded in July 1988 by guitarist and singer Sergei Novikow and drummer Anatoly Chebotar under the name Knjas Serebrjany ("The Silver Knight"). Two years earlier they had already given a few concerts together, where they played pop songs and some cover versions of AC / DC and Alice Cooper . A short time later, Alexander Kamenschtschikow joined the band as bassist. On the first demo Valeri Mutschi could be heard as the second guitarist, but he left the band six months later. They also played their first concerts, mainly playing cover versions of Savatage , Dio , Loudness , Ozzy Osbourne and Saxon . They also played their own songs, the lyrics of which were all in Russian .

In 1991 the band changed their style: the lyrics were now only in English and they now played aggressive Thrash Metal. They recorded the new material in 1992. The material was re-recorded and released on the debut album Euthanasia in 1993 via Death City Records . In their further career the band performed together with other bands such as Hellraiser , Black Obelisk , Korrosija Metalla , Trizna , Abadonna , Exhumator and Tornado between Russia and Belarus . At this time, the band recorded new material, which was released as a microcassette under the name Blind Faith .

From 1995 to 1999 the band played only a few concerts because the band members took care of their families. In February 2000 the next album If Tomorrow Comes was released on MetalAgen Records . On March 5, 2000 the band played for Kreator in Moscow . Meanwhile, Sergei Novikow released a phonogram about his solo project X-Factor . The lyrics were in Russian and were written in 1988 and 1989. The album also contained three covers: Fly Away ( Mad Max ), Breaking the Law ( Judas Priest ) and Belladonna ( UFO ). Sergei Nowikow played all the instruments, using a drum computer for the drums . In 2000, Konstantin Kamenschikov, younger brother of bassist Alexander Kamenschtschikow, joined the band as a new drummer. Alexander Kukin joined the band as the second guitarist. In May 2001 the band played with Gods Tower , Nordream , THRON and Izakaron at the Metalagen Festival of their former label MetalAgen Records. a. Arbitrator were under contract.

In 2002 the band recorded the album Blind Faith and released it that same year. The band also performed with Sodom in Moscow. They also started work on the next album called Total Darkness . On September 29, 2003 the band opened a concert by Pungent Stench together with Mind Eclipse . On October 26, 2003 the band performed at the Thrash Metal Festival together with Manic Depression , Stalwart , Diversia and Factura in Moscow.

From February to mid-April 2004 the band recorded the album Total Darkness in Sergei Novikov's studio called SPN Studio. In December 2004 the album was released on CD Maximum . The album also included four bonus covers from Black Sabbath , Deep Purple , AC / DC and The Beatles . Shortly after the completion of Total Darkness , the band worked on the next album.

In February 2006 the album Cybernized was released on Mystic Empire Records . In January 2007 the band signed a contract with Metalism Records for a re-release of the album Euthanasia . In 2008 the band broke up.
