Moses Strauss

Moses Strauss (born December 20, 1887 in Eschau ; † 1981 ) was a German doctor , author and briefly mayor of the Orthodox Jewish community in Heilbronn .

Life

Strauss studied medicine in Munich and Berlin and worked as a general practitioner and spa doctor in Bad Mergentheim before the First World War . From August 1914 he took part in the First World War as a doctor. In 1916 he was assigned to the reserve battalion in Heilbronn for six months, where he settled after the war. From 1919 he built up a successful practice. In 1921 he married Elsa Wolf, who came from Baden in Switzerland . The three children Walter, Edith and Ernst (* 1928) resulted from the marriage.

After Heinrich Scheuer's death in 1936, Strauss became head of Adass Jeschurun , an Orthodox Jewish community in Heilbronn. He emigrated to Liechtenstein on December 20, 1937 . Since he was not allowed to practice as a doctor there, he began to write numerous popular medical works, which he published as Mosy Strauss . After 1947 he lived in Switzerland and from 1950 in Zurich , where he ran a psychological practice. He died in 1981 and is buried in Zurich. According to him, at the University of Haifa , the Dr. Moses Strauss Department of Marine Geosciences .
