The Moto 360 is a smartwatch and the first Android watch with a round display, which was presented on September 5, 2014 in Chicago during the IFA and has been on sale since October 6, 2014. The successor is the Moto 360 (2015) .

General

The watch has a round screen with a diameter of 46 mm, which is flattened at the bottom due to the ambient light sensor, and an interchangeable leather or metal strap. The case is black or silver. The watch has a pedometer, heart rate monitor and two microphones. The vibration mode is intended to replace the missing speakers as a feedback source.

The watch is charged with the Qi standard and is dust and waterproof according to the IP67 standard. The processor is from Texas Instruments . The clock rate of the OMAP -3630 is not known, but the processor is not very energy efficient. To main memory are 512 MB and internal memory 4 GB.

The Motorola Moto 360 has an optical heart rate monitor and a pedometer. With Moto Body, the smartwatch comes with an in-house fitness app.

Availability

Google announced at Google I / O 2014 that the watch would be available “later in the summer”. A Motorola press release for a display of various devices on September 4th hinted at the introduction of a smartwatch.

The Moto 360 has been available in Germany since October 23, 2014.

reception

In tests by arstechnica and heise , the older processor was criticized because the software often jerked when scrolling and it often crashed. The inadequate energy efficiency of the CPU is also a problem: with heavy use, the watch has to be charged two to three times a day. After a firmware update (to version KGW42R) the battery will last about 24 hours, even with frequent use. The workmanship and appearance, as well as the automatic brightness adjustment, were positive.

According to analysts at Canalys, the Moto 360 is the best-selling Android Wear device in 2014, although it was only sold from the last quarter onwards.
