Moulinex was a listed French manufacturer of kitchen and household appliances, founded in 1955 by Jean Mantelet in Alençon . The name, which combines the French words “Moulin” (“mill”) and “ex” - which stands for “Express” - is used today by Krups GmbH , a brand of the SEB Group .

history

The company was founded in 1955 by Jean Mantelet. The founder and boss left the company in the mid-1980s. In 1987 the company was headed by General Manager Roland Darneau , Finance Director Michel Vannoorenberghe and Head of Marketing Gilbert Torelli .

As part of general external growth, Moulinex bought the German company Krups in 1991 . The company ran into difficulties due to the weak global economy. The share price fell to 65 francs at the end of 1995, but then recovered slightly. In 1997 the plant in Mamers was closed and the share price fell to 9.50 euros in 1999. On September 11, 2001, the company with around 9,000 employees filed for bankruptcy . The allegations ranged from mismanagement to the blame on globalization . On October 23, the Commercial Court in Nanterre appointed Groupe SEB as the administrator of Moulinex. This decision led to massive protests by workers. Of the eight plants in France, three more had to close in addition to the main plant in Alençon; around 5,000 people lost their jobs, 3,700 of them in France. On November 23, 2001, the union , whose role is controversial, signed the severance pay scheme, which provided for payments of between 30,000 and 80,000 francs.
