Historical Krups logos

Krups was a well-known manufacturer of kitchen appliances and is now a brand of the global French group Groupe SEB . A number of household electrical appliances are sold under this name . The German Krups GmbH focuses on warehouse and customer service activities and also supplies neighboring markets such as Austria and the Netherlands . It also stores devices from other group brands. The development and production of the devices as well as sales in other markets are carried out by international group companies.

Krups is known, among other things, for the 3Mix hand mixer , which came on the market in 1959 and was later available in almost every second West German household .

history

The company began in Wald (Solingen) as a forge . In 1846 it was taken over by Robert Krups and expanded. From the establishment of the German Empire in 1871 until the 1950s, Krups mainly manufactured personal and household scales.

In 1956, the company began manufacturing an electric coffee grinder , of which over a million units were sold in the first year. 1964, there were four factories in Solingen and one in the Irish Limerick . A branch was founded in Bottrop in 1960, but it was closed again in 1983. For years, some employees drove to the Solingen headquarters in a bus chartered by Krups. For some time there was also a plant in Gelsenkirchen . Later in the works came Mexican Guadalajara and Hong Kong added. Three years later, Krups added its first food slicer to its range. Since 1983 Krups has also been offering a growing range of espresso machines and fully automatic coffee machines .

In 1990 Krups employed almost 3,000 people and achieved sales of 541 million DM , 40 percent of which was generated in Germany and 30 percent in the USA . The majority of the company's sales came from coffee machines and mixers.

In 1991 there was a cooperation with the Swiss food company Nestlé , within the framework of which a coffee machine to be equipped with coffee capsules was brought out. In the same year Krups was acquired by the French white goods manufacturer Moulinex . In 2001 Moulinex went bankrupt and was taken over by the French Groupe SEB . Since then, Krups has belonged as a brand to Groupe SEB.

Today's household appliances available under the Krups brand name have been produced by the French Groupe SEB since 2001. The buildings of the former Krups GmbH in Solingen no longer exist today. Marketing in Germany is carried out by Groupe SEB in Offenbach am Main .
