Moundou ( Arabic موندو) is a city in southern Chad and the capital of the Logone Occidental region . With around 137,000 inhabitants, it is the second largest city in the country.
history
Moundou is the youngest city in Chad. It was founded on November 8, 1923 by the French military.
geography
Moundou is traversed by the Logone Occidental river, which is also the namesake for the region. A bridge connects the northern and southern parts of the city. The northern part is bounded in its southwest by Lac Ouei . It is located at an altitude of 420 m above sea level. M.
The entire area of the northern Logonetal has only slight differences in altitude. During the annual floods of the Logone Occidental, the water also flows into Lac Ouei, and from there into the entire city.
economy
The city is the most important industrial center of the African state. Important industries are petroleum , cotton and the consumer goods industries. Moundou has an international airport.
Since 1959 the city has been the seat of the eponymous diocese of the Roman Catholic Church .
The city has an airport from which flights to N´Djamena and Sarh depart .

The city has a typical African humid savanna climate with year-round average temperatures of around 25 ° C and an annual rainfall of 1250 mm.
