The diocese of Moundou ( Latin : Dioecesis Munduensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Chad . It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of N'Djamena as a suffragan .

history

On May 17, 1951, the Moundou Apostolic Prefecture was established from cedings of the Apostolic Prefectures Fort-Lamy and Garoua . On February 19, 1959, the Apostolic Prefecture was elevated to a diocese. March 1989 the diocese lost part of its territory when the diocese of Doba was established. The next loss of territory occurred in November 1998 when the two dioceses Goré and Lai were established.

It has (as of 2004) an area of ​​8,692 km², 12 parishes in four deaneries, 25 priests (17 indigenous secular priests, 3 Fidei-donum priests and 5 religious priests), 1 friar, 64 religious sisters, 14 major seminarians and 24 minor seminarians as well over 1,000 catechists. Joachim Kouraleyo Tarounga has been bishop since June 2004 .
