The Archdiocese of N'Djaména ( Latin : Archidioecesis Ndiamenanus ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in N'Djamena and includes regions in southern Chad .

history

On January 9, 1947, the Apostolic Vicariate Fort-Lamy (today's city of N'Djamena) was founded from the cedings of the Apostolic Vicariates of Khartoum and Foumban and the Apostolic Prefecture of Berbérati . On September 14, 1955, the Vicariate Apostolic was elevated to a diocese and on December 22, 1961 to an archdiocese. Since October 15, 1973, the archbishopric has also borne the new name of the Chadian capital: N'Djamena . On May 17, 1951, the Vicariate Apostolic Fort-Lamy gave parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Moundou . Further assignments of territory took place on December 22, 1961 to establish the diocese of Fort Archambault and on December 1, 2001 to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Mongo .
