Matthias N'Gartéri Mayadi

Matthias N'Gartéri Mayadi (* 1942 in Bedaya ; † November 19, 2013 ) was a Chadian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of N'Djaména .

Life

Matthias N'Gartéri Mayadi was ordained a priest on December 30, 1978 after studying in France .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Sarh and titular bishop of Thuburnica on October 28, 1985 . The Archbishop of Ouagadougou , Cardinal Paul Zoungrana MAfr , ordained him episcopal on April 12 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Charles Louis Joseph Vandame SJ , Archbishop of N'Djamena , and Henri Véniat SJ, Bishop of Sarh.

On March 7, 1987, he was appointed Bishop of Sarh. On June 11, 1990, he was appointed Bishop of Moundou . On July 31, 2003 he was appointed Archbishop of N'Djamena by Pope John Paul II . Matthias N'Gartéri Mayadi was considered to be morally and politically very influential in Chad.

He died on November 19, 2013 in an ambulance aircraft on the way to Lyon as a result of a stroke he had suffered a week earlier.
