Mount Argus is a massive and isolated mountain with three separate peaks, the highest of which reaches 1220 m . It rises up in the northeastern Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula at a distance of 16 km west-northwest of Miller Point between the Poseidon Pass and the Athene Glacier .
Aerial photos of the mountain were taken on September 28, 1940 during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The British geologist Arthur Gilmore Fraser of the British Antarctic Survey carried out a geodetic survey in 1961. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1963 after King Argos from Greek mythology.
